Inspired by….Feeling Fall Linkup!

Fall is officially here and I could not be more excited!  Coming from New England, I grew up watching the leaves change to the most brilliant colors, smelling the crisp air mixed with the faint scent of bonfires, and going apple picking at the orchard near my house.  Plus, my birthday is in the fall (October 27th!), school starts in the fall (#nerdstatus), and my favorite holiday of all, Thanksgiving, is in November.  Fall is my season :)

This fall is also a season of new beginnings, as I began my London study abroad adventure just two weeks ago. WOW.  So many things are happening in my life right now, between studying abroad, starting my new position as Executive Editor of Smart Mail and relaunching, beginning working as Editor-in-Chief for a media startup called SamePage, developing my blog and personal brand, etc. etc.  It's exciting, overwhelming, terrifying, and amazing, all at the same time.  Going back to blogging….I present to you, the Fall Linkup with The Fashion Newcomer, Carrie on Blogs, and Insane and Plain!  I don't usually write about fashion, but that's what new beginnings are for, right?

As a study abroad student, I have become a minimalist in terms of my wardrobe.  At first, I was worried I would wear the same things over and over again, but it's so easy to mix and match staple pieces to create a whole new look, as I've been discovering.  My favorite way to do this is with SCARVES!  A scarf can complete an outfit like nothing else and makes it very hard to notice that, yes, that is the same black tshirt you wore on Monday.  (I haven't gotten there yet but give it time.)  Scarves are warm and cozy for chilly classrooms, and add a certain brightness to your face.  I have this big, thick, pink one that's basically a piece of soft fabric that is my go-to.  Pink is one of my favorite colors and this scarf is so soft and lovely - it's like comfort food…for my neck.  I wore it on my flight to London since it's wide enough that I could wrap it around my shoulders when I wanted to take a nap, and it brightened up my outfit the next morning.

As much as I love my pink scarf, my all-time favorite scarf is a gray patterned one I got from JCrew about three years ago. Because it's more neutral than the pink one, it's the easiest to pair with my wardrobe.  I wore it yesterday for tea at Harrods (more about that later)!

I personally love folding a scarf and looping it to tie it, but the number of ways you can tie a scarf is endless, so it's impossible to get bored!

New goal: try ALL of these ways!

New goal: try ALL of these ways!

So if you're studying abroad with a limited wardrobe, or just want a way to spice things up, invest in scarves because they will save your life!

Now, let's talk about fall!

Favorite Fall Trend: I love trends that complement weather that is chilly, but not freezing.  For example, I've recently discovered a love wearing leggings under skirts with flats.  I am obsessed with my dark denim jacket (literally works with everything ), and I also love light sweaters with skirts and boots.

Favorite Fall Starbucks Drink: Would I be a 19 year old girl from Connecticut if I didn't say that the Pumpkin Spice Latte is my favorite drink?  Probably not, so it's a good thing that this really is my favorite!  I also love chai lattes, and anything with cinnamon.

If I could live in one pair of boots all season…. It would have to be my black leather riding boots!  I always feel super classy when I wear them and they look especially cute with leggings and skirts.

Favorite Fall Activity: The air is so crisp and perfectly cool, so going for a trail run is incredibly satisfying in the fall.  I live near an orchard, so I've always loved apple picking and making apple and pumpkin-related baked goods  (I make a mean pumpkin bread).

Thanks so much to Jamie, Carrie, and Laura for inviting me!

Inspired to be,
